* In the 1940s and 1950s, following up prewar research, both the US and the Soviet Union developed pressure suits for high-altitude flight. From the 1960s, both countries began to conduct crewed space missions, which demanded substantially improved pressure suits for survival in the space environment. This document provides a short history of the evolution of US and Soviet-Russian spacesuits. A list of image credits is provided at the end.
