The Guadalcanal Campaign

v2.1.4 / TOC (5 chapters) / 01 nov 21 / greg goebel

* In 1942, less than a year after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, the United States conducted its first major amphibious combat operation of the war, on an obscure island named Guadalcanal, in the Solomon Islands chain. The battle for Guadalcanal was desperate and clumsy, with bloody blunders on both sides. The Allies did prevail, and then began a drive up the far-flung Solomons to pry loose the Japanese hold on the South Pacific. This document provides a history of the battle for Guadalcanal.
