* Although space is mostly empty, the Earth is not alone in the vacuum. Our planet often crosses paths with chunks of rock, some as large as several kilometers in diameter; every now and then, one of those chunks of rocks slams into the Earth, with spectacular results. This document describes the current state of knowledge about such "Earth impacts". A list of illustration credits is included at the end.
